I'm very late to this post, but this reminds me of the Moravian Lovefeast, in which a sweetened bun and either coffee or tea are served as the elements. Pumpkin spice wafers are not far off the mark.
The only time I ever participated in a Moravian Lovefeast was when I attended a UCC church very early in my Christian walk and didn't know much better. The "feast" consisted of a sweet roll and a cup of hot mulled cider (non-alcoholic).
