It's not that Calvinists deny that faith is a requirement for salvation; but rather, that they so emphasize election that the required faith becomes merely a formality and not the pivotal thing that it is in Scripture. Once one is regenerated, all else---faith included---occurs like dominoes falling one after another. Therefore, regeneration is made the pivotal thing in salvation, and faith is merely a fruit of the process.
