Calvin and Arminius did not preach the gospel by their writings I have read.
ReplyDeleteThen he hasn't read much OF EITHER!
William, so in your mind Calvin and Arminius both preached the gospel. The one true gospel is preached over and over and it is the Christ, Yeshua of Nazareth, died for our sins ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES, HE WAS BURIED AND HE ROSE AGAIN THE THIRD DAY ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES. This is the word preached by the gospel. The Old Testament preached by the death, burial and resurrection of Yeshua. And so where does that leave you? Arminius a speaker of the truth as well as Calvin. Foolishness! So Calvin can preach the gospel despite consenting to the death of man, and Arminius can preach the gospel despite declaring man has a free will. This is utter confusion. Calvin can preach the gospel despite saying that Yeshua died only for a few. Again utter foolishness. And all you have to say is I have not read, what I have read. How blind you are.
ReplyDeleteDaniel
"So Calvin can preach the gospel despite consenting to the death of man?"
ReplyDeleteKing David did worse than that...but I'm not sure it means he didn't really know God and he's not saved.
Calvin misapplied OT passages like numbers25. He was probably wrong in his understanding but I'm not convinced it's as damning a mistake as you claim.
"Calvin can preach the gospel despite saying that Yeshua died only for a few?"
Calvin would say "many" rather than a "few" - he was biblical that way:
Matt26:28This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for MANY for the forgiveness of sins.
Heb9:27Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of MANY people...
Heb10:13Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, 14because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.
Does He love the enemies that He will make His footstool the same as He loves His bride? Did His sacrifice "perfect" His enemies and are they "being made holy?"
John10:15I lay down my life for the sheep.
Eph5:25...just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26to make her holy…
Matt1:21...give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.
Rom8:32He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
if Christ was given up for nonbelievers then nonbelievers will be given all things. Christ is interceding for those whom He sacrificed Himself - yet John17:9,20 teach that Jesus prayed for believers and refused to pray for the "world."
Acts2:17In the last days, God says, “I will pour out my Spirit on all people...
you read "all" and can't imagine the writer would mean "all kinds", so you conclude that God will pour out His Spirit on nonbelievers.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 18Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy…”
but the context teaches that “all” means “all kinds”: men and women, young and old, but specifically the people of God.
Heb2:9But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
similar situation, where you would prooftext that Jesus died for "all." (same greek word "pas.")
10In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering. 11Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers. 12He says, “I will declare your name to my brothers;
in the presence of the congregation I will sing your praises.” 13And again,
“I will put my trust in him.” And again he says, “Here am I, and the children God has given me.”
14Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. 16For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's descendants.
did He taste death for every single person or for His brothers/children/those who are being made holy/abraham's descendants (gal3:29)?
(the word "pas" is also in 1Tim6:10-is the love of money the root of "all" evil (including lust and sloth?) or "all kinds" of evil?)
like it or not, it's there.
